A seven-year-old boy abducted from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been found in Aba, Abia State.

Sources told Abuja Metro that the boy, identified only as Abdul, was rescued by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Aba South LGA and handed over to leaders of the Northern Nigerian community in the area.

Speaking to reporters by phone, the Chief Imam of Aba Central Mosque, Malam Idris Bashir, confirmed that Abdul identified himself and gave his mother’s name as Hauwa’u.

He reportedly told the Imam that he was abducted in Abuja after a man offered to help him cross a road, only to whisk him away to the South East.

“The boy appeared knowledgeable in Islamic teachings and answered questions from the Holy Scripture,” Bashir said, adding that two families have since contacted him regarding the boy’s identity—one ruled out a connection, while the other plans to travel to Aba for physical verification.

In a separate case, a four-year-old boy, Ismaila Bashir, was allegedly abducted in Tudun-Wada, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State.

His father, Salisu Bashir, said the boy was taken by two women who recently rented an apartment nearby, paying in cash. After the abduction, their phone line became unreachable.

“The women received a ₦35,000 cash transfer from a local POS operator on the evening of the incident,” Bashir disclosed.

Efforts are underway to secure a court order to track the bank account used for the transaction.

Both cases have raised fresh concerns over child safety and the ease with which abductors evade security screening in urban communities.
