Motorists and other road users in Warri and its environs in Delta State have appealed to the state government and Warri South Local Government to rehabilitate bad portions of roads in the commercial nerve centre of the state to alleviate their sufferings.
NewsNet Nigeria investigation revealed that the roads at Ibo market by Okere Junction, Okumagba Estate axis and Bowen Avenue, all in Warri South Local Government Area are currently begging for urgent attention, especially with the increased rainfall.
Vehicles and tricycles popularly called Keke were seen trying to avoid bad spots thereby causing traffic jams.
Some vehicle and tricycle owners said the bad spots on most of the roads have continued to cause them pain particularly on loss of man-hour, damage to cars and tricycles with their attendant cost implications.
Motorists and Keke operators who acknowledged the scorecard of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on road construction across the state appealed to him and the Warri South Council Chairman, Dr Michael Tidi, to urgently fix the various bad spots in the metropolis.
On the award of road contracts, they called on the state government to blacklist quack construction firms and sanction government engineers who certify shoddy jobs to serve as deterrents to others.
They noted that if the roads are motorable, it will reduce the impact on perishable goods, save man-hours and also reduce the cost of maintenance on their vehicles and tricycles.
