Delta State Commissioner for Works Highways and Urban Roads, Comrade Reuben Izeze, has assured that Okpanam-Ibusa Road project in Oshimili North Local Government Area, would be completed and delivered by May 2024.

Izeze who gave the assurance during inspection of the project in Okpanam on Wednesday, commended the contractor, Lebtech Construction Limited, for the pace and quality of work done.

The project that was awarded on 29th September, 2022 by the immediate past administration, is a 5.3km road, with two side concrete drains measuring 10.6km, one single cell Culvert, one double cell culvert and a triple cell Culvert.

Izeze speaking to pressmen stated that the last time he accompanied His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, to this project site,

“they have not even contemplated starting the box culverts, but between then and now the contractor has done an appreciable amount of work and with the pace they are going, I do believe that all things being equal, we will be able to deliver this project to the government by the second week of May 2024. So that the Governor can inaugurate it for the use of our people in fulfillment of his meaningful development promise to the people of Delta State.

“Let me also use this opportunity to commend the work schedule of the contractor, I can see that they have planned their sites very well and are following the work schedule, ultimately with the appropriate financing the project is expected to be completed and delivered in May as promised in record time.

“I will also commend the community, you can see how peaceful the environment is. It seems to be that there’s an understanding between the contractor and community, and where it is possible , they allow the machineries to take the back seat so that able bodied young men who are willing to earn a living legitimately can also earn a living in the course of this project.

“This off course is part of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to see that as much as possible, Deltans irrespective of where they are, are assisted to at least live above the extreme poverty line.

“I thank the Governor for ensuring that this project inherited from the last administration has been well funded. I commend the engineers of the Ministry who are in charge of this project particularly, as led by their leader, Engineer Solomon Akpotowho, the Director of Urban Roads, who has ensured that high level of engineering principles are applied in carrying out this project,”
