Two prominent Delta leaders, a two-time member of the Delta State Executive Council, Olorogun Fred Okiemute Majemite, and immediate past Managing Director, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Commission (DESOPADEC), Bashorun Askia Ogieh, will on Thursday receive top honours from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council.
Both men are among the distinguished personalities selected by the 2025 NUJ Delta Press Week Planning Committee, led by Comrades Pere Botu and Barth Ozah, for recognition at the Grand Opening Ceremony, Lecture & Awards scheduled for November 20, 2025, at Orchid Hotel, Asaba, starting at 11am.
The event will feature Senator Joel Onowakpor Thomas as keynote speaker, with Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as Special Guest of Honour.
NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, will serve as Chief Host, while the State Council Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, is Host.
Majemite will receive the Award for Outstanding Grassroots Development and Philanthropy, while Bashorun Askia Ogieh will be honoured as Outstanding Educational Philanthropist of the Year.
Majemite: Lawyer, Politician, and Community Advocate
Born in 1964, Majemite is a lawyer, businessman, and notable political figure in Delta State. A graduate of the former Bendel State University (1989) with a Master’s degree in Constitutional Law from the University of Lagos (2002), he is currently pursuing a doctorate in Law.
His law firm, A.O. Majemite & Associates, has produced numerous successful lawyers over the past two decades. He also leads Jitobs Limited, an engineering and construction firm active in the Niger Delta.
Majemite is widely known for his “politics without bitterness” approach and has earned several honours and traditional titles. His philanthropic outreach has supported young people and elderly citizens across Delta’s three senatorial districts. He has served as Special Adviser on Environment, Political Adviser, and twice as Commissioner.
Ogieh: Administrator, Education Advocate, and Community Builder
Bashorun Askia Ogieh, from Uweye community in Uzere Kingdom, Isoko South, has built a career across banking, public service, and politics. As DESOPADEC Managing Director, he prioritized human capital development and community empowerment.
His signature educational intervention, the Bashorun Askia Foundation Schools Debate, has run for over six years, nurturing critical thinking and academic excellence among Delta students. He has also funded scholarships for deserving learners.
Ogieh holds multiple professional fellowships and certifications, including chartered accounting and forensic auditing. A Justice of the Peace and Knight of St. John International, he is married to Grace Ogieh, and they have children and grandchildren.
