Nigeria’s Super Eagles have recorded a significant rise in the latest FIFA World Ranking, climbing to 26th position globally.
The ranking, released on Monday by world football’s governing body, reflects a remarkable 12-place jump from Nigeria’s previous 38th position, alongside a points increase of 79.09.
The surge follows the Super Eagles’ impressive outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where they finished third overall after defeating Egypt in the playoff match on Saturday.
Led by head coach Eric Chelle, Nigeria delivered a campaign widely praised for discipline, cohesion, and tactical maturity.
The team lost only one of their seven matches, bowing out in the semi-finals to host nation Morocco via a penalty shootout.
Although denied a place in the final, the Super Eagles’ bronze-medal finish served as strong consolation and has now translated into improved global standing.
At the summit of the latest FIFA rankings, familiar heavyweights dominate the top 10: Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany.
Within Africa, Morocco remains the continent’s highest-ranked team, followed by Senegal and Nigeria. Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, DR Congo, and Mali complete Africa’s top 10.
