Report reaching NewsNet Nigeria indicates that a yet-to-be-identified vigilante has died from a stray bullet that hit him during the conduct of the Isoko South constituency 1 bye-election in Delta State.

The election was held today Saturday, September 11, 2021, to fill the vacant Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly.

Some news sources had reported that the victim was one of the voters who turned out for voting at a polling unit in Irri, near Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area until suspected armed hoodlums invaded the unit.

However, when contacted, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, told NewsNet Nigeria that the deceased was a vigilante who was around the polling unit but, could not confirm if the victim was among the voters who turned up at the unit to cast their vote.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, used the election to test run its newly introduced Bimodal Voters Authentification Machine, which captures the face and fingerprints of eligible voters before they cast their votes.

At some polling units, the machines had glitches in capturing the faces of some electorates and fingerprints of others.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Ovuakpoye Evivie and that of the All Progressive Congress, APC, voted almost the same time at Unit 6, Ward 2 and Unit 9, Ward 1, Oleh.
