In a significant development for the future of Nigerian sports media, Senator Ned Nwoko has commended the National Sports Commission (NSC) and its chairman, Mr Shehu Dikko, for taking bold steps toward the full revival of sports broadcasting in Nigeria by the end of the year.

The initiative, described by Nwoko as “a bold and commendable move,” was unveiled during an inspection and engagement session that brought together key stakeholders in the country’s broadcasting and sports sectors.

The effort is part of Dikko’s “3Rs” agenda—Reform, Rebuild, Restore—aimed at overhauling and modernizing the infrastructure that supports sports broadcasting in Nigeria.

A key element of the initiative is a strategic partnership with Thompson Broadcast, Paris, the original manufacturer of broadcast equipment critical to the planned upgrade.

Officials from NTA, FRCN, VOA, and other major media organizations joined the inspection of facilities and reviewed plans for comprehensive technical rehabilitation.

“This initiative is more than infrastructure,” Senator Nwoko said in a public statement. “It’s about reigniting national pride, empowering our athletes, and ensuring that Nigerian sports are seen and heard across the globe.”

The reactivation of sports broadcasting is expected to play a transformative role not only in restoring the visibility of Nigerian sports but also in creating opportunities for youth through sports, technology, and innovation.

Senator Nwoko reaffirmed his support for the initiative, stating, “As always, I stand fully in support of visionary efforts that elevate Nigeria and unlock new opportunities for our youth.”

With a clear roadmap and collaborative efforts from both local and international partners, the NSC’s drive to modernize Nigeria’s sports media landscape signals a new era—one that could reposition the country as a leading force in African sports broadcasting.
