Super Falcons through to quarterfinals of WAFCON2022

Super Falcons of Nigeria on Sunday beat Burundi 4-0 to move to the quarter finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Falcons garnered six points from two games to qualify after losing their opening match to Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

Aside dominating the game from the blast of the whistle, the defending champions wrapped up the game in the first half.

Rasheedat Ajibade opened scoring for the defending champions in the 25th minute, converting a penalty.

Three minute later, Peace Efih doubled Falcons’ lead, scoring a brilliant goal for Nigeria.

Burundians were yet to recover from the second goal conceded when Uchenna Kanu struck in the third goal for the Falcons in the 29th minute.

Kanu got her brace 45th minutes, burying any come back hope for the Burundians.

With Sunday’s win, Nigeria took Group C’s second qualifying spot behind South Africa who had maximum nine points after winning all their group games. Bostwana and Burundi both crashed out of the tournament. (Peoples Gazette)
