Nigeria’s quest for a 4th African Cup of Nations title started on a poor note as they were forced to a 1-1 draw by the Equatorial Guinea side in their Group A opener played in Abidjan Sunday afternoon.
Ivan Salvador gave the Nzalang Nacional the lead in the 36th minute, punishing the Super Eagles for slack marking.
The lead was short-lived as Nigeria within two minutes through Victor Osimhen, headed home an equalizer from a cross initiated by Ademola Lookman.
The Super Eagles coach during the second half made several changes in a bid to increase the goal tally despite the effort they failed to convert the few chances that came that way.
The Super Eagles’ next group game will be against tournament host, Cote d’Ivoire, on Thursday by 5 pm.
