The 3rd edition of the Felix Anirah Football Tournament, FAFT has officially kicked-off at the Sapele Township Stadium in Delta State.
At the Sapele Township Stadium, which was filled to capacity, Pemu FC and Juventus FC settled for a 2-2 draw at the opening ceremony on Sunday, 15th November, 2020.
In all the six matches played across the five zones, two wins and four draws were recorded with Caleb United FC of Bayelsa State beating Ichofe Wanderers FC of Ughelli 4-0.
BJ Foundation FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Eagles United FC while Eagles Wings crushed Blazers FC 6-1 at the Crescent Club sports complex in the Benin Center, to record the first two victories of the tournament.
In the Asaba Centre, Sumit FC and Sower FC had a 1-1 draw scoreline at the St. Patrick’s College.
However, former Delta State FA Cup Champions, Future Stars FC narrowly picked a point against Winfure FC in a game that ended 1-1 in the Warri City Stadium.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the opening ceremony, the host and member representing Sapele Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Felix Anirah expressed deep satisfaction with the performances of the teams in the tournament.
Anirah urged them to be good ambassadors of the game, noting that sports bring unity, love and togetherness hence FAFT has over the years been involved in promoting sports (football).
Meanwhile, Hon. Felix Anirah has supported former Ex- International, Perter Fregene with the sun of one hundred thousand naira.
According to him, the gesture is part of his benevolence in promoting sports in the country, noting that Fregene has contributed his quota to the development of sports in the country.
The Felix Anirah Football Tournament which started on Sunday, November 15 is expected to end on 15th December, 2020, with the winner going home with 2 million naira, second position 1.5 million and the position 1million.
