Delta Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has given the contractor handling the renovation of the Warri City Stadium 3 months to deliver the job.

Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, disclosed this on Saturday while inspecting ongoing renovation work at the Warri city stadium.

He assured that the Warri City Stadium will be the cynosure of all sports-loving fans by the time the ongoing renovation work is completed within the next three months as the Governor of the State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has directed that the best of facilities be used to rebuild the complex so as to ensure a long-lasting sports centre that will stand the test of time.

He noted that most of the facilities are dilapidated and would have to be rebuilt to meet the required international standard as directed by the Governor.

Chief Tonobok Okowa, therefore, urged the contractor to put in his best to meet the given time as prompt delivery of the work will be of great value to the government and people of Delta State.

He said that the tartan tracks would be replaced with the modern ones as it was done in Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, where the old ones were removed and replaced with the quality of the ones used in Oregon and Birmingham.

He further said that the same facilities in Birmingham are what the Governor has directed them to use but warned that there must be security forces that would prevent vandals from destroying the facilities.

According to him, the different sections in the complex will be adequately addressed to ensure that the Governor’s directives are carried out to the latter without leaving any stone unturned.

He added that the swimming pool is also part of the facilities to be renovated as it is already of the international standard but would need constant use for effective utilization and maintenance.

He also inspected the Squash Court and the Media Center and gave assurance that they will be put in good shape within the given period.
