Fenerbahce have terminated the contract of Jose Mourinho, the Turkish club announced on Friday, ending the Portuguese coach’s short spell in Istanbul.
The decision comes just two days after Fenerbahce were knocked out of the Champions League playoffs by Benfica.
Mourinho, 62, joined the club in July 2024 after leaving AS Roma.
His arrival was met with huge fanfare, with thousands welcoming him in Istanbul as hopes rose of ending Galatasaray’s dominance and securing Fenerbahce’s first Super Lig title since 2014.
But a shaky start to the season, coupled with European setbacks, increased pressure on the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United manager.
In a statement, Fenerbahce said they had “mutually agreed to terminate” Mourinho’s contract.
The club has yet to name his successor.
