President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick said he was worried about Alex Iwobi being quarantined in Benin Republic.
Confederation Africa Football CAF on Tuesday cleared Iwobi to play against Lesotho after his COVID-19 test returned negative on Monday.
Iwobi tested positive to COVID-19 on Saturday before the game against the Squirrels and was immediately transported back.
Pinnick in a tweet said he took the responsibility of consulting with the relevant authority to get Iwobi out of Benin.
He noted that last Saturday was a difficult day for Alex Iwobi and his family after the news broke that he had tested positive for the COVID-19 virus ahead of the away game against the Squirrels of Benin Republic.
According to him, the fear of Iwobi being quarantined was real and worrying hence he took the responsibility of consulting with every relevant authority to get him to travel out of Benin by boat about 7:30pm, to forestall him getting isolated there.
Pinnick gave the glory of God as after further tests in Lagos, confirmed that Iwobi was not infected with the COVID-19 virus.
