The Argentine captain pipped Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (the other favourite) to the award.
He led his National side to a Copa Americas triumph in the summer, scoring 41 for country, Barcelona and PSG with 17 assists.
Champions League and Euro 2020 winner, Jorginho completed the top three with Ngolo Kante, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mo Salah, and Kevin De Bruyne finishing 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.
Spain’s Alexia Putellas became the third winner of the women’s Ballon d’Or prize while Barcelona & Spanish teenager, Pedri, won the Kopa Trophy.
New awards were introduced with Bayern’s Lewandowski, winning the Striker Of The Year, while Club of the year (Men & Women), went to Chelsea FC.
