Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has secured a second term in office and will remain governor of Anambra State until 2030, following his victory in the November 8 governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results in the early hours of Sunday, declaring Soludo the winner after he won overwhelmingly across all 21 local government areas of the state.
The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Omoregie Edoba, formally declared Soludo re-elected at the INEC State Collation Centre in Awka.
“I hereby declare that Soludo Charles Chukwuma of the APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is returned elected,” Prof. Edoba announced.
According to INEC, out of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, of which 584,054 were valid and 11,244 rejected.
Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), garnered 422,664 votes.
His closest challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 99,445 votes.
Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) finished third with 37,753 votes, while John Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received 8,208 votes.
Other contenders included George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP), who secured 10,576 votes, and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 1,401 votes. In total, 16 candidates participated in the election.
Soludo, who first won the governorship in November 2021, had previously clinched victory in 19 out of the 21 LGAs.
His re-election marks the continuation of his administration amid sustained debates over governance, development, and security in Anambra State.
