Nigerian businessman and founder of the popular Zenith Bank, Mr Jim Ovia has donated office and officers quarters to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Friday inaugurated the projects executed under the auspices of the Jim Ovia Foundation.

The governor called on wealthy Nigerians to support the government’s effort at fighting insecurity and other challenges in the country.

He said that there were lots of security and other challenges facing the country that government alone could not handle.

Okowa commended Jim Ovia Foundation for the facility, saying “I am very excited to have this project built and donated by Jim Ovia, the founder of Zenith Bank Plc and Jim Ovia Foundation.

“It is good to have this type of serene environment for a police command and I am truly happy and appreciate you.

“Too many things need to be done but the government cannot do them alone, that is why we keep calling on well-meaning individuals to find a way to help.

“This is not the first time you are coming to our aid and I am told that there are many more to be done.

“The good thing is that when a son of the soil is doing well, the only thing is to pray for him and request that he does more.

“So obviously, with the very good thing we are seeing here today, we are obviously going to be requesting for more and more and please don’t get tired of us,” he said.

Okowa said that the environment was very welcoming even though nobody prays to go to the police station.

“We are glad you have donated this for the officers and men of the police force to do their work very well.

“We want to say thank you for this because it will be a befitting place for our officers to sit and do their work.

“We will continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who have excelled in many places to be able to return home to help to improve the lives of our people,” he stated.

Earlier, the donor of the facility, Mr Jim Ovia, who is a native of Agbor, lauded Governor Okowa for his outstanding accomplishments in the state, adding that the Governor had performed creditably well in the comity of governors.

He said he was motivated to embark on the project because of the security challenges in the area and promised to do more for the community.

“We have made this little contribution towards ensuring security, law and order so that our community and state can be safe for our people to live their lives comfortably.

“We will do more in the area of education and security to better the lives of our people,” he added.

On his part, Managing Director of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr Ebenezer Onyeagwu, lauded Jim Ovia Foundation for the donation, adding that it will help improve the security and lives of the people of the area.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Ari, commended Jim Ovia Foundation for the kind gesture, noting that the magnificent edifice was indeed a heart-warming one.

He implored all spirited individuals to reciprocate the kind gesture of Jim Ovia not just to the police but to other sectors.
