Commercial tricycle operators have been banned from plying expressways in Uvwie Local Government Area in Delta State.
Chairman of Uvwie Council, Ramson Onoyake says the ban takes effect from Monday, July 11, 2022.
Onoyake gave the directive shortly after a meeting with Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) from Ebrumede, Enerhen, Ekpan and Ugborikoko and chairmen of tricycle operators and task forces in the locality.
The Uvwie Council chairman said his administration is enforcing the law put in place by the Delta state government which tricycle operators have refused to comply with.
He named the routes affected to include DSC Roundabout to Effurun roundabout and the NPA Expressway by Chevron oil company.
He warned tricycle operators who he described as very stubborn not to play with this directive and asked the police to effect the state government law and arrest tricycle operators that disobey the law.
The Uvwie Council chairman frowned at the reckless driving habit of tricycle operators on the expressway leading to accidents and inconveniences to other road users.
In his response, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ebrumede Police Division, Iwok Ndifreke promised to carry out the government directive to the letter.
Chairmen and coordinators of Tricycle Operators in Uvwie assured the Council of their compliance promising to enlighten the tricycle operators about the latest decision of the government.
