All anticult activities in Ekpan community in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State have been proscribed.
The chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Mr Ramson Onoyake announced this during a security meeting at the Council Secretariat in Effurun.
The security meeting was called following a renewed disturbance in the community last Sunday.
Onoyake who spoke with newsmen said the disturbance has been quelled following the deployment of soldiers who mounted security checkpoints in the community.
The Uvwie Council Chairman asked the police in Ekpan to henceforth patrol the community whenever there are distress calls.
He maintained that the anticult activities in Ekpan have outlived their usefulness.
He wondered why an anticult group should turn into an outfit that causes disturbance instead of assisting security agencies in maintaining law and order.
While at the meeting, a distress call came from Refinery junction in Uvwie that one Stephen Akemu otherwise known as ‘A Stone’ was causing a scene.
Security agencies and the Council Chairman quickly moved to the scene and found that a Nissan Ultima Sports car with registration number Delta EFR 03 BW was abandoned at the scene while the said ‘A Stone’ and two others allegedly believed to be a member of the gang fled the scene in two Sienna Toyota Vehicles.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ekpan Police Division, CSP Bulus Musa, ordered the vehicle to be towed to the station while investigation commences.
The Council Chairman, Mr Ramson Onoyake then ordered the proscription of the anticult group believed to be causing disturbances in the Ekpan community.
The Council Chairman however advised residents of Uvwie and Ekpan community to go about their normal businesses assuring the security of lives and property in the area.
