One person has been confirmed dead from Sunday’s clash involving two major power blocs that have locked horns in a leadership tussle in Ofuoma community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
NewsNet Nigeria gathered that a notable leader in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the community, is allegedly spearheading one of the warring factions.
The other faction is said to be led by a former PDP leader in the community now in the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.
A dependable source told this medium on condition of anonymity on Monday that the person who was killed on Sunday was cut in a crossfire from the gun battle that ensued between both factions.
The deceased, Mr Felix Edeneaghe, according to the source was a staff of Yoma Farm Resort Nigeria Limited in Ofuoma community adding that other victims from the clash are in critical condition in the hospital.
Another source said the tension that gripped the community following the clash on Sunday has been brought under control by policemen now patrolling the community.
Some concerned elders of Ofuoma community recently inaugurated an Elders Council to chart the right direction for the community to move on the path of peace and development.
The Elders Council had alleged that the running of the community was in the wrong direction hence their intervention.
In a phone chat with NewsNet Nigeria, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident saying the deceased 44 years of age was the youth vice chairman of the community.
