NDA Attack: Group condemns killing of Lt. Cdr Awolo from Delta, warns of cover-up

A socio-political forum of elders christened Izu Ikei Aniocha-Oshimili in Delta State has described the recent brutal attack and killing of some officers of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, Kaduna, as unthinkable and unbelievable.

Rising from an emergency meeting chaired by its Leader and President, Chief Peter A. Dunkwu, the forum in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Uche EmmaAboh, particularly condemned the murder of their son, Lt. Cdr Samuel Okpunor Awolo, in the unprovoked assault on the NDA premises.

The late Lt. Cdr Awolo hails from Ubulubu in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The forum noted with displeasure the assault on the Nigerian highest military formation and the seemly politicisation of the security of the people of Nigeria by the current leadership at the centre.

The body wondered why the present administration has reneged on its statutory responsibility or incapacitated in carrying out its fundamental duty as enshrined in Chapter II, Section 14, Sub-section 2b of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, which declares that “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”.

The body further pointed out that President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces and a retired Major General, ought to be in a good position to decisively deal with security problems that beset the country.

It decried the insensitivity of the Federal Government and stressed the need for proper and urgent identification of the so-called gunmen as well as openly bring them to book.

The forum added that it was keenly watching and expecting the result of the internal investigation going on as any cover-up would not be accepted.
