Tension is rising in Iwhrekan Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State over reported inauguration of interim caretaker committee to pilot affairs of the community.

The people on Sunday, October 13 however debunked the news of inauguration of interim caretaker committee as the community leadership election holds at the end of October.

Okpako-orere (eldest man) of Iwhrekan Community, Pa Lucky Bakporhe, women representative, Fere Fowino and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Lucky Okpako and others insisted that Executive of the Community led by Comrade Rufus Onokurefe remains till a new election would be held.

Mrs Fere Fowino who spoke on behalf of Iwhrekan women and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Mr Lucky Okpako called on the State Government and members of the public to disregard the purported inauguration of interim caretaker committee for the community.

They noted that those behind the alleged inauguration are desperados who want to breach the sustained peace in the community.

Immediate past President General of Iwhrekan, Comrade Samson Onojechere, Chairman of Electoral and Screening Committee, Nelson Gbagbeke and Youth leader of the community, Comrade Paul Edeamrigho called the reported caretaker committee members as impostors who want to cause crisis in Iwhrekan Community.

Comrade Onojechere, Mr Gbagbeke and Comrade Edeamrigho explained that the persons who claimed to be inaugurated as caretaker committee as same who Instituted litigation against the community leadership and the Court that current executive led Comrade Rufus Onokurefe should stay and conduct election at the end of October.

Collaborating other speakers, the incumbent President General of Iwhrekan Community, Comrade Rufus Onokurefe said that nobody should plunge the community into crisis but should wait till election and seek to the mandate of the people to lead.

Comrade Onokurefe insisted that he is not holding onto power as he would handle over leadership to anyone who emerges through the election.

The various speakers said that the term caretaker committee is alien to Iwhrekan Community constitution.

They added that the people of Iwhrekan Community are expecting the election to hold at the end of the month so nobody should derail it for personal reasons.
