A member of the 9th Nigeria National Assembly, Hon Ben Igbakpa has taken a swipe at some of his colleagues and top officials of the Nigerian government for opposing the impeachment move of opposition senators.
Recall that on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, opposition senators led by Senate minority leader Philip Aduda walked out of the plenary of the Nigerian Senate in protest against the refusal of the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, to allow discussions on a motion on the security situation in Nigeria and demand President Muhammadu Buhari to deal with the situation within six weeks.
The opposition lawmakers had wanted to use the opportunity to kick start an impeachment process against President Buhari after the elapse of the six weeks ultimatum over the worsening insecurity in the country.
In a tweet on Saturday, August 8, 2022, on his official Twitter account @benigbakpa, Hon Igbakpa, who represents Ethiope East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives decried the utterances of those opposing the impeachment in support of President Buhari.
He tweeted saying, “I don’t see why the national assembly is split on the issue of impeachment. The vote of no confidence on PMB is a no-brainer. Those on his side are bootlickers and menial sympathizers. He and his cohorts spent 7+ years talking about the PDP. They’ve run this nation to the ground”.
Ahead of the expiration of the six-week ultimatum, most lawmakers are not backing down on their resolve to impeach President Buhari and equally sack Senator Lawan, should he attempts to halt the process.
