Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured the Nigerian Army that the quota or slots allocated to the state in military recruitment exercises will be fully taken by qualified Deltans.

The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday when the representative of the Chief of Army State, Brigadier General Wito Nzidee paid him a courtesy visit in continuation of the Nigerian Army sensitization and advertisement tour of South-South states to partner state governments on sensitization campaigns for the ongoing Nigerian Army 87th Regular Recruits Intake Exercise.

Oborevwori who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, said an estimated 35 Percent out of the state’s six million population are active youths, and some of them would certainly be interested in the exercise.

He noted that career in the military is good and also very prestigious while assuring the Chief of Army Staff that the state government shall immediately commence state-wide sensitization campaigns through the State Orientation Bureau, DSOB, elected representatives, traditional rulers and Heads of Personnel Management in all 25 local government Councils in the state.

He also used the occasion to appeal to media Organisations and practising Journalists in the state to assist in publicizing the ongoing Nigerian Army 87th Regular Recruits Intake exercise for Trades/Non-Tradesmen and women.

“Career in the military is good and prestigious and must be encouraged at all times. We have vibrant, active and qualified youths who can fill Delta State quota.

“One of the focal points of this administration MORE agenda is Job and Wealth creation. We shall stop at nothing to encourage our vibrant youths to be gainfully employed through available opportunities, such as the ongoing 87th regular recruits intake exercise in the Nigerian Army.

“Be rest assured that we shall do the needful to ensure that Delta State will fully utilise her quota or slots in all military recruitments, going forward.”

Earlier, the representative of the Chief of Army Staff, Brigadier General Wito Nzidee, said the purpose of his visit is to appeal to the state government to embark on effective sensitization campaigns so that the slots allocated to Delta state will be fully utilized in the ongoing Nigerian Army 87th Regular Recruits Intake Exercise.

He disclosed that the Nigerian Army had commenced online registration for the exercise via official website at: https//recruitment.army.mil.ng for Non-Trades/Tradesmen and Women, adding that the exercise which commenced on Friday, 3rd May will end on Friday, 7th June, 2024.

“Delta State is not just a state, but also a key player in our national economy. In securing Nigeria, Delta must also be at the forefront by ensuring that the state quota during military recruitment exercises is fully taken or utilized.

“There is the need for the state government to embark on sensitization campaigns to create the needed awareness to enable qualified Deltans between 18 and 22 years for Non-Tradesmen and Women, and not more than 26 years for Tradesmen/Women, to apply.

“It is important to use town criers in Communities, towns and villages, as well as media publicity to create awareness in urban and rural areas across the state.

“The Chief of Army Staff will be very happy to see significant increase in the number of applications from Deltans in the ongoing 87th Regular Recruits Intake Exercise,” Nzidee said.
