The Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Communications, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has said that the State Government was not aware of acute insecurity in the state that would warrant panic or inability of Deltans to go about their normal socioeconomic activities.
Dr Oghenesivbe who stated this Wednesday, April 23, on a live radio programme “The Republic” on Sleek FM 101.9, Owa-Ekei, stressed that issues of land disputes and cult-related activities in few communities and in some parts of Ika nation should not be mistaken for serious insecurity challenges across the state, saying that the governor has directed that all land disputes should be looked into and resolved to enhance peaceful coexistence among the various communities across the state
He said security operatives should properly investigate minor security breaches in Ika nation to unravel the immediate and remote causes while urging community leaders, elective representatives and local council helmsmen to join efforts with security operatives to put security breaches urgently.
He noted that the alleged security breaches in some communities in Ika nation have not been widely reported, and called on the people of the area always to speak out any time they experienced threats against peace and safety of lives and property.
He assured callers during the radio program, The Republic, that his office will interface with the State Police Command and the SSG’s office to look into the alleged security breaches in some Ika communities to tackle it headlong.
He stated that the government of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has done excellently well in tackling insecurity across the state, hence, “there is peace in the state,” which would continue to attract tourists and investors to Delta, now and always.
He also disclosed that government has been very committed to the security of lives and properties in the state, therefore, it should be given kudos not punches, stressing that the governor appreciates constructive criticism, which enables him to take proactive actions regularly.
The EA Communications to Governor Oborevwori advised people in various communities in Ika Nation, and across the state, to work closely with security agencies and their representatives in government, whether elected or appointed to sustain peace and security.
