When the coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the 2023 general elections in Olomu Ward 2, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Robinson Onokahweri set out for his daily business on Saturday, July 22, 2023, he never knew the misfortune that would befall him as he now depends on people for survival and catering for his wife and six children.
Mr Onokahweri who lives at Aladja Community in Udu Local Government Area was shot by a trigger-happy soldier while he was rushing home to rescue and move his young family to safety during the crisis between Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja Communities on that fateful day.
He was taken to a private clinic by sympathizers where he spent over a month and incurred medical bills of over Five Million naira (N5,000,000.00).
Mr Onokahweri is also the Welfare Officer of PDP in Olomu Ward 2 was discharged at the end of August 2023 following the intervention of a foremost political leader in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Olorogun John Unukebo Oguma, who paid Five Hundred Thousand naira (N500,000.00) to upset part of the medical bills.
Though, the magnanimity of Olorogun Oguma, popularly called the ‘Udu of Olomu Kingdom’ went a long way paying the balance bills remained a challenge to Mr Onokahweri.
The Medical Director of the clinic who is from Ughelli South however showed him kindness by discharging him so he could go home to work and pay the balance of the bills.
Unfortunately, the two-time Councillorship aspirant on the banner of the PDP in Olomu Ward 2 still cannot clear his medical bills because he has been bedridden since he was discharged.
Mr Onokahweri who is supposed to be happy that he is alive and for the successful child delivery of his wife is rather sad because he is in debt and pain.
Mr Onokahweri is unable to get needed drugs for treatment of his wounds and his children also cannot go to school.
Speaking about his predicament, Mr Robinson Onokahweri appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori, who is reputed for grassroots political connectivity, to come to his aid in meeting his medical needs and family challenges.
According to him, Governor Oborevwori, organisations and well-meaning individuals should assist him to drop the clutches and resume his normal life.
