There seems to be apprehension among security agents in the South-East of Nigeria over rising insecurity in the geo-political zone of the country.
NewsNet gathered from a Journalist, who recently travelled from a community in Anambra State in the South-East to Nasarawa State in the North, that no security agent was sighted on the roads which were hitherto known to have Police check points on every kilometre.
The absence of Policemen from the roads was blamed on fear arising fron recent attacks on security agents in the South-East which resulted in the deaths of some of them, destruction of police stations and vehicles.
This medium is yet to confirm if the development is in compliance to the directive of the new Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba on dismantling of road blocks.
Meantime, some suspected criminals are reportedly cashing in on the security
situation to cause public disturbance in the region.
Some of them stormed the Abagana-Onitsha Road at the weekend, destroying the windscreens of some vehicles parked close to a first generation bank and popular
hotel in Abagana, Anambra State
They also shot into the air to scare people.
Some persons in the area alleged that the perpetrators were hiding under the
guise of agitators in the South-East to carry out their nefarious acts
