Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has rejected claims by the Nigerian Government the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) is responsible for the killing of worshippers at a Catholic Church in Owo last Sunday.

A statement by the Ondo State government during the week puts the death figure at 40 people with dozens injured.

Akeredolu who reacted via his Facebook page said, “Owo Killings, ISWAP Terrorist? What evidence. Too Hasty”.

The federal government had yesterday Thursday afternoon, blamed the Islamic fighters for the attack on the worshippers.

Interior minister Rauf Aregbesola disclosed this to reporters shortly after the national security council meeting held in Abuja.

However, no group yet to claim responsibility for the attack.

ISWAP, which is an offshoot of Boko Haram predominant in Nigeria’s North-East where they have carried out brutal attacks for over a decade.
