A secondary school teacher who rushed her daughter to Ufor hospital in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli Local Government Area of Delta State for treatment has narrated her ordeal in the hands of men of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue taskforce who allegedly extorted N35,000 from her.

The teacher (name withheld ) attached to a secondary in Ughelli metropolis said she was accosted by the task force led by the chairman, Samson Igho on Isoko road by Oharisi Primary School on Thursday, September 28, 2023,

According to the teacher, “I was rushing my daughter to Ufor hospital for treatment when they stopped me and demanded my licence. I explained to them my situation but they insisted.

“I have to carry my daughter on a motorcycle and leave the car with them, and before I returned from the hospital, my car was taken to their office.

“When I got to their office located at premises of VIO and DESTMA, Ughelli opposite Obukowho School, they told me that my offence was N35,000 and I asked them to give me an account to make the payment, they refused that I should give them cash.

“I went to a PoS, withdrew the N35,000 and gave it to a lady, I requested a receipt but the lady at the office told me that they don’t issue receipts.

“The lady told me that if after one week, I could not renew my license, I would be arrested and again and be made to pay same amount.

When contacted, the task force chairman, Mr Samson Igho denied the allegation saying, “I am on the road and my people cannot do such thing.

“This is not what we can discuss on the phone, we need to see and talk. I am in a noisy place and besides I don’t stay in Ughelli.”
