The political tempo towards the buildup to the 2023 general elections in Delta State is being envisaged to metamorphosis from Thursday, April 14, 2022, when the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege will officially announce his entrance into the governorship in the state under the banner of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The slogan ‘Agege Is Coming’ has been widely chorused for quite some time across the state, especially by ardent supporters of the Orogun born politician, who is renowned for his doggedness in achieving his political pursuits and in defence of the collective yearnings and aspirations of his people of the Urhobo nation.
Insider sources in the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State told NewsNet Nigeria that since the news of the official declaration of Senator Omo-Agege to contest the gubernatorial seat came to the fore a few days ago, there has been uneasy calm in the camp of the ruling party in the state.
The declaration has been scheduled to take place at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Ugbomro, Effurun, beginning at 10am.
Political pundits forecast that the political space of the state will not only get charged up but, will also begin to expose the ‘Chameleon posture’ of key actors of the PDP, who had even pitched a tent, particularly with the camp of the currently favoured governorship aspirant in the state.
Keen political watchers of political developments in Delta State hold the strong view that Omo-Agege does not only poses the needed political sagacity and pedigree to subdue any ‘baby or featherweight’ candidate put forward for the 2023 governorship contest by the PDP; he in addition presently has very rich political contacts, strong legal penetrations and resources to outwit the ruling party in the 2023 general elections.
So, come Thursday, April 14, 2022, it is not unexpected for the state to witness some sort of political somersault going by what some political pundits say is the seemingly yet unresolved cold war among two contending political gladiators in Delta PDP on the burning issue of whose choice candidate should fly the party’s flag for the governorship contest in the 2023 general elections.
A stitch in time they say saves nine!
