The aspiration of Comrade Lucky Olerhimena Ofomukoro to occupy the chairmanship seat of Ughelli North Local Government Council in Delta State on Saturday, May 4, 2024, received a big boost as youths of the area staged a Million Man March in support of the actualisation of his ambition.

The march by the youths under the banner of Comrade Lucky Olerhimena Ofomukoro Support Group through major roads and streets of Ughelli town, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area comes two days after the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) officially released the time-table and schedule of activities for the conduct of local government elections in the state slated for Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Comrade Ofomukoro, who is aspiring for the chairmanship position of Ughelli North Council is from Agbarha Ward 1, Unit 10 in Agbarha Otor Kingdom of Ughelli North Local Government Area, a graduate of the Delta State University Abrake, a former Organising Secretary of PDP in Agbarha ward and a one-time member of Delta State Waterways and Land Security Committee.

He is being widely tipped to clinch the PDP chairmanship ticket and go on to emerge victorious at the local government polls in July based on what some political pundits have described as Comrade Ofomukoro’s loyalty and commitment to the PDP for years as well as his humble nature and grassroots politics.

During the Million Man March, the youths drawn from the different Wards of Ughelli North said Comrade Lucky Ofomukoro stands out among those aspiring for the chairmanship of the local government council.

They particularly recalled the rare display of loyalty by Comrade Ofomukoro when he staked his life to ensure the victory of the PDP as the party’s Collation Agent at Agbarha in the 2023 general elections.

The youths urged leaders of the PDP in Ughelli North and other critical stakeholders in the area to settle for Comrade Ofomukoro as the preferred chairmanship candidate of the party in line with the recent position canvassed strongly by the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori wherein he charged PDP leaders and stakeholders to present popular candidates in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

Among those who spoke to newsmen during the Million Man March was Comrade Emmanuel Omas Esamagu from Ughelli North Ward 3/7, Unit who said, “We are on this million man march to support our brother, Comrade Lucky Ofomukoro because we deemed it fit to support him because he is capable of handle and govern the local government.

“He is a good man, he is tested, and that is why we deemed it fit to support him, we know he can handle the affairs of our local government, and he has proven himself in all capacity to be amongst the top with any rival.

“The support from his Agbarha community, Ughelli North and Delran in general shows that he is capable of delivering dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

“He is a trustworthy fellow, truthful and honest and if our leaders will allow him to govern Ughelli North, he will try his best as a responsible man.”

Mr Emaya Oghenevwarhe from Ughelli North Ward 1/5, described the chairmanship aspirant as a man who is known for his loyalty to the PDP and respect for everyone he comes across.

“Anytime you call on him he is there for you. He was a one-time Security Chairman in his community Agbarha during which he ensured there was peace. He is a very vibrant young man who can govern Ughelli North Local Government Council,” said Oghenevwarhe.

Comrade Ubini Ufuoma Isaac from Ughelli North Ward 1, Unit 10 in Agbarha-Otor said, “Comrade Lucky Ofomukoro has paid his dues for the PDP and it is time to reward him with our votes.

“In the last elections, he delivered beyond every expectation, staked his blood and life to defend our party the PDP and it is good we replicate this by voting for him in the forthcoming elections, he is popular among the old and young.

“He is a man to the grassroots and because of his popularity, the youths, elders, leaders are behind him because he is reliable.

For her part, Mrs Vivian Gborogen noted that the antecedents and pedigree of Comrade Lucky Ofomukoro speak volumes hence the women are solidly behind him to actualise his chairmanship aspiration.

She said, “Comrade Lucky Ofomukoro has the capacity, the voltage to lead the people of Ughelli North and that is why we are solidly behind him.

“He is not that type man that would divert public funds to his personal pocket, and we know for sure that when he becomes the chairman, he will empower the women.”
