Civil society actors under the aegis of the National Civil Society Coalition (NACISOC) and the Delta State Civil Society Volunteers (DSCSV) have held a massive solidarity roadwalk along the East-West road to declare support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential ticket of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, Activist Rex Anighoro was among the key civil society actors that led the road walk in Ughelli town, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State during which participants also canvassed seriously for votes for the Delta State PDP governorship ticket of Right Honourable Sheriff Oborevwori and Sir Monday Onyeme.
The roadwalk by the National Civil Society Coalition and the Delta State Civil Society Volunteers in support of the Atiku-Okowa presidential ticket and Oborevwori-Onyeme governorship ticket caused gridlock on the Ekiugbo community axis of the East-West road as the participants try to advance their points on why Nigerians should cast their votes for the PDP on February 25 and March 11, 2023.
The participants carried placards with inscriptions such as “Vote, Don’t Fight! Say No to Vote Buying”, “Civil Society stands with Atiku-Okowa to advance Citizens’ Power and expand the Civic Space” and Atiku-Okowa will Restructure Nigeria; Sheriff-Onyeme will do More for Civil Society and make life more abundant for Deltans”.
The roadwalk spearheaded by the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Civic Engagement and Civil Society, Activist Rex Anighoro, had several civil society leaders participating including the pioneering Coordinator of the Delta Society Community, Deacon Okezi Odugala, the Coordinator of the Delta Civil Society Volunteers, Activist Oyovwe Ejiroghene and the Secretary of the Delta State Civil Society Community, Activist Ambrose Egbe.
One after the other they took turns to give outline reasons why Nigerians should jettison the APC and vote for the PPD in all the elections.
They blamed the APC-led government for plunging Nigerians and Nigeria into untold hardship and problems that have eroded the image of the country to the outside world.
Ambassador Malcolm Tagbarah of Inspired Vision Initiatives, Rex Anighoro and civil society actors noted that having observed the PDP Presidential candidate and the Vice Presidential candidate they believe both are more practical and realistic in moving Nigeria forward.
They also expressed confidence that if voted into power fiscal transparency, accountability and good governance will be the signature of the government of Atiku and Okowa.
They further appealed to eligible voters in Delta State to cast their votes for Oborevwori and Onyeme governorship ticket for the sustenance of the legacies of the Okowa-led administration of the state.
