The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council congratulated the newly elected Chairmen of the 25 Local Government Councils of Delta State for emerging victorious in the council election held on Saturday, March 6, 2021.

Delta NUJ in a statement signed by the state Chairman, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and the state Secretary, Comrade Patrick Ochei, Secretary, said with the election over the newly sworn-in council chairmen in the state should utilise the next three years of your tenure to focus on governance.

The Union also advised the council chairmen to appoint qualified, practising and registered Journalists in the state to handle their Media and Communications affairs for the needed professional touch to ensure effective propagation of their projects and programmes to the people.

The NUJ explained that its stance was necessitated by the fact that the position of media aide is exclusively for media professionals who are able to relate with their colleagues in the field for cordiality and proper information management.

The leadership of the Union in the state pledged to continue with its One on One Engagement with the new council chairmen to make the third tier of government more result-oriented.

The Union commended the Delta State Government, DSIEC, various political parties and other stakeholders for ensuring peaceful and successful Councils election in the State.

“Above all, we appreciate our members who covered the election for their professional conducts and most importantly for heeding our warning to report objectively and ensure their safety while on duty.

“We have counted and we are convinced that our members are complete after the election.

“We also commend the security agencies for their cooperation with our members and of course for their effective policing during the election,” the Union noted.
