The results of Saturday’s Delta State House of Assembly by-election for Isoko South 1 Constituency have been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The results were announced by the INEC Returning Officer for the election, Prof Christopher Onosemuode, flanked by representatives of security agencies and other officials of the electoral umpire.
The by-election according to the INEC was held across five wards in the constituency.
It was meant to fill the vacuum created by the demise of Hon Kenneth Ogba, who represented the constituency before his death on 27th June 2021.
Announcing the election result, the Returning Officer, Prof Onosemuode, said the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Ovuakpoye Evivie, polled 6,907 votes.
He said the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Ogaga Ifowodo scored 1,301 votes, while the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Mr Emumena Micheal polled 1,291 votes.
Prof Onosemuode declared Evivie of the PDP winner of the election having scored the highest votes to beat other party candidates in the election.
The INEC Returning Officer disclosed that the total registered voters in the five wards were 61,964, while accredited voters for the election was 9, 885.
According to him, the total valid votes was 9, 636, while rejected votes were 171, bringing the total number of votes cast in the election to 9,807.
He said twelve political parties fielded candidates for the electoral contest.
