President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, could take over power in 2023.
In an interview with the National Television Authority, NTA, on Thursday evening, Buhari however said PDP taking over in 2023 will be possible if his party, the APC, fails to agree on issues.
He added that there was no influential figure in the party to endorse any aspirant for any elective position.
The President whose tenure will elapse in 17 months also warned the leadership of his that the opposition could take over if it fails to hold its Convention within the specified period.
Buhari in an interview with the National Television Authority, NTA, which was aired on Thursday evening asserted that the APC must work within the timeframe available, determine a substantive leadership, and chart its course ahead of the 2023 elections; otherwise, it risks being displaced by the opposition.
While reacting to the question of whether as an important figure in the party, he will give assignments to specific persons or support any candidate, Buhari said he is not a kingmaker insisting that aspirants will have to diligently prove their mettle this time.
