The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has again reiterated its commitment to the timelines set for the conduct of primaries of political parties ahead of the 2023 general elections.
INEC’s National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, in a release on Thursday, warned of the consequences of political parties not adhering to the directive.
Okoye in the statement said, “Given the importance of the exercise to the emergence of candidates for the various elective positions for the 2023 General Election, it is imperative to remind political parties that they have one month from today to conclude their primaries. The deadline remains Friday 3rd June 2022”.
The electoral umpire reminded political parties of the need to submit names of candidates who must have emerged from valid primaries.
