The Rivers Elders Council has blamed the raging impeachment plot against the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara on the “skirmishes by some anti-Democratic forces” to plunge Rivers State into political turmoil for their selfish gains.
The growing political tension over the impeachment plan against the Rivers State governor thickened on Sunday night when the State House of Assembly was rocked by an explosion allegedly perpetrated by yet-to-be-identified political thugs over the impeachment plot against the governor.
The situation further deteriorated on Monday morning when Governor Fubara and his entourage were tear-gassed, and water-sprayed by security operatives as they made their to the Assembly Complex.
Reacting to the development, Rivers State Elders Council in a press release expressed sadness over an attempt by political enemies of the state to distract Governor Fubara from his commitment to sustain the temple of development in the state.
The release titled “LET GOVERNOR FUBARA BREATH” was signed by Chief Henry Aguma, Chief Mike Lube, Hon. Ben Ikenza, Mazi Chituru, Comrade Tom Odum, Elder Kinika Aholu and Elder Emm Owhurodu.
“The attention of the Rivers Elders Council has been drawn to the skirmishes by some anti-Democratic forces to throw Rivers State into political quagmire because of the refusal of His Excellency Sir Sim Fubara to mortgage the State;
“We solidly stand by His Excellency Sir Sim Fubara in this hour of patriotism and statesmanship.
“We implore them to allow His Excellency breath and to perform his duties without fear or intimidation,” said Rivers Elders Council.
