The Delta State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council has expressed confidence in the arrangements for the March 6, 2021, local government elections in the state.
The Council, which is the umbrella group of registered political parties in Delta State also commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his developmental strides.
In a letter to Governor Okowa signed by the state chairman Mr Emeka Bidokwu and the state secretary, Mr Lucky Okorakpa, the group expressed implicit confidence in the governor for his managerial ability and relationship with all political parties irrespective of their different identities and ideologies.
The group also commended the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon for initiating measures that engendered a free atmosphere for political parties to express themselves without any impediment.
The Senior Political Adviser to the Governor they noted has ensured that political parties in the state are consulted on major political and administrative issues, urging him to continue to strengthen the synergy between the ruling party and other parties in the state.
On the coming March 6 local government elections in the state, Bidokwa said the Inter-Party Advisory Council has been liaising with the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DESIEC) on its preparation for the exercise.
“We are satisfied with the level of work done so far and we will continue to monitor the process and make recommendations to DESIEC on making the process more credible. So far, they are on the right track,” Bidokwu said.
He said DESIEC’s preparations for the elections hold bright prospects of a free and fair poll.
Elections will be conducted on March 6 to fill the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the 25 local government areas in Delta State.
