The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pegged June 17, 2022, as the deadline for the submission of names of Presidential candidates and their running mates by political parties.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, gave the hint at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja on Thursday.

The electoral umpire warned that the dedicated portal for the submission of the list of candidates for national elections will automatically shut down at 6pm on Friday, June 17, 2022.

However, for Governorship and House of Assembly elections, the list of candidates shall be uploaded from 1st to 15th July 2022.

The Commission stressed further that only names of candidates that emerged from democratic primaries as provided by Section 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 shall be submitted. (THE NATION)
