A group under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State christened Agbarha PDP Elite Forum, APEF, has written to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to advance cogent reasons why Agbarha ward should be allowed to produce the next chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council ahead of the July 2024 local government elections in the state.

APEF made this known in an open letter to the governor released on Monday, May 6, 2024, and signed by the Chairman, Chief Moses Ogegere and Secretary, Comrade Ubini Isaac.

Letter in full below:

HIS EXCELLENCY,

RT HON ELDER SHERIFF F.O OBOREVWORI

THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF DELTA,

ASABA

SIR,

RE: DELTA LGA POLL: WHY AGBARHA WARD SHOULD PRODUCE THE NEXT COUNCIL CHAIRMAN OF UGHELLI NORTH LGA

As we prepare for the forthcoming local government council elections in Delta state, it is paramount to put forward at this time, the political/power balancing of the various wards in Ughelli North Constituency 1 regarding political appointments.

Your Excellency sir, it would not be out of point to say that the upcoming council elections would serve as preparations for the 2027 general elections, hence the need for power balancing of all areas either through appointment or elective.

Today, Agbarha ward has not been treated fairly in terms of appointments despite our huge votes contribution to our great party the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in all elections. We have always produced the highest votes in all elections with the records there for verification, yet we are the least considered ward for appointments.

Below are the Polling Units (PU) and voting strength of the wards in Constituency 1:

1. Agbarha ward 42 PU with 23,741 votes

2. Ogor ward 24 PU with 13,338 votes

3. Orogun ward 1  15 PU with 9,310 votes

4. Orogun ward 2  31 PU with 18,279 votes

5. Evwreni 18 PU with 9,860 votes

As at this moment, no major appointment has been given to Agbarha son or daughter despite producing the highest votes in the last election.

Orogun has DESOPADEC commissioner, Ogor has the Executive Director Finance and Administration, Delta State Board of Internally Generated Revenues, Evwreni has the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) while Agbarha with the highest votes is given a Special Adviser. This will have an adverse effect in terms of funding and prosecution of the 2027 general elections in Agbarha ward and on the people of Agbarha in the areas of empowerment.

Without mincing words, we do not have any leader with the financial strength to take care of our people now and during elections. Agbarha people deserve better appointments to commensurate our contribution to the party, Your Excellency.

To balance the equation of power distribution sir, there is a need for Agbarha ward to produce the next council chairman.

CHOICE OF A CREDIBLE CANDIDATE

According to the political history of the state, PDP has never won Ughelli North in all governorship since 1999 despite having prominent leaders. While many factors could be responsible for it, our choice of candidate for the No 1 citizen seat of the LGA must be bold with political sagacity, vibrant with political exposure and more importantly, someone with wide and good interpersonal relations with the people, especially the youths who are the engine room of election, who can mobilize the entire LGA during election, Your Excellency, we can’t afford to lose Ughelli North with the highest number of registered voters in 2027, there is need for a credible candidate for the No 1 seat of the LGA who will be able to do the needful during election in 2027.

Your Excellency sir, it is only in Agbarha ward you can have such an individual with the qualities analyzed above from the long list of those vying for the chairmanship position.

We know you as a man of equity and fairness and a lover of youth as displayed in your cabinet.

It is on this premise that we write this letter to passionately appeal to you sir to consider Agbarha ward for the chairmanship position, for even and political power balancing.

Signed

Chief Moses Ogegere

Chairman, Chief Moses Ogegere and Secretary, Comrade Ubini Isaac

(Secretary, Agbarha PDP Elite Forum, APEF)
