The Rivers State House of Assembly Complex has been demolished on the orders of the State Government.
The demolition was reportedly carried out by Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration for renovation purposes.
The Governor is said to be set to present the Rivers State 2024 budget proposal to the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Edison Ehie at the Government House.
Around 6 am on Wednesday bulldozers arrived at the complex and began the demolition exercise barely two months after fire gutted the complex.
Recall that on Monday, 27 out of the 32 members of the State Assembly defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Some political pundits have viewed Wednesday’s demolition of the Assembly Complex as a tactical approach by Governor Fubara to avoid impeachment by the opposing lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
