Hon Erhaitake Ibori-Suenu, the incumbent member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency on Monday, May 20, 2024, led a peaceful protest over the imposition of candidates for councillorship positions of some wards under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The protest march around Oghara town from Ogharefe to Oghareki had youths, women and leaders of the party showing true solidarity against those who they say were intending to reap where they never sowed.
Among the wards affected by the imposition is Oghara ward where a former governor of Delta State and founder of the party in the state, Chief James Ibori hails from.
A former House of Representatives member for Ethiope Federal Constituency was fingered in the imposition of candidates and accused during the protest of announcing candidates of local government elections in wards that were not in his jurisdiction, including the ward of the incumbent House of Representatives member, Hon. Erhaitake Ibori-Suenu, that of the former Governor, founder and financier of the PDP in Delta State.
During the carnival-like protest, which later climaxed into a PDP meeting at the James Ibori PDP Secretariat at Oghara, headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Oghara PDP leaders vowed to resist any form of disrespect for their national leader, Chief Jams Ibori.
The PDP leaders alleged that the wards the former House Reps member is announcing PDP councillorship candidates are not in his jurisdiction, including the ward of the incumbent House of Representatives member, Hon. Erhaitake Ibori-Suenu.
The protest and meeting were widely attended at short notice by members of the party across Ethiope West Local Government Area during which a vote of confidence was passed on Hon. Ibori Suenu judging from her impactful representation filled with lots of projects and empowerment in less than one year.
It also allowed the numerous leaders to air their opinions on the continuous disregard and disrespect for the founding father of PDP in Delta State.
They called on the incumbent State Governor to call his attack dogs to order as the national leader of the party deserves all but respect for his unrivalled contributions to the growth and development of the PDP in Delta State.
Two former local government chairmen of Ethiope West Local Government Council who spoke, Hon Solomon Golley and Hon Precious Ajaino, urged the party faithful to remain calm and not to throw caution into the wind.
Hon Erhaitake Ibori Suenu on her part stated that it was quite funny that someone who left the party publicly without decamping back publicly is deemed fit to be used as a machinery of disrespect to leaders of the party in Oghara.
This she described as an aberration, noting that despite the continuous falsehood being peddled by detractors waiting to reap where they never sowed, she had invested too much in the party and could not be pushed out.
The federal lawmaker urged party faithful to remain calm and resilient as nothing will distract her from representing her people, as she has promised.
