The Association of Contributing Retirees (ACR) has thrown its weight behind the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Delta State.
At a town hall meeting held at Dantinajo Resort Hotel Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State earlier this week, the Association having expressed their pains amid fear over their delayed gratuity resolved to support the candidature of Sheriff Oborevwori on the assurance that their demand will be given top priority even before the end of the current administration.
In a motion moved by Comrade Frank Oviomo, Public Relations Officer of the Association, they unanimously agreed to vote for the PDP candidate in the March 18 governorship election.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Local Government Pension Bureau, Mr Ben Igo had assured that the government was doing everything possible to ensure that the benefits of the retirees will be paid within the shortest possible time. He stated that the state government was working on securing a bond towards the liquidation of all the outstanding payments.
Also speaking the convener of the meeting, Prince Joseph Kpokpogri, identified with the pains and agonies of the retirees and the need for the recognition of the body of retirees (ACR). He stressed the need to prioritize the payment of retirees in the current administration or the incoming government of Rt Hon. Sheriff.
The secretary of ACR, Prince Gordon Etuwede speaking on behalf of the members thanked the convener and the team from the Bureau of Local Government Pension and their association members for their attendance.
He appealed that such a meeting should be sustained for harmonious coexistence.
The town hall meeting was attended by representatives of the ACR members from the 25 local government areas of Delta State.
