Delta Council Polls: No going back on March 6, says Ogbodu

The chairman of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), Chief Mike Ogbodu says the local government elections for March 6, 2021, in the state will go on as scheduled.

Ogbodu who disclosed this on Tuesday at Asaba, while declaring open a one-day media seminar on “Ethical JOURNALISM: AN INDISPENSABLE ASSET FOR EFFECTIVE COVERAGE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS”, for journalists said adequate arrangements have been concluded to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the elections.

The seminar was organised by DSIEC in synergy with the state leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council led by Comrade Michael Ikeogwu.

The DSIEC boss reaffirmed the determination of the electoral body to conduct a free and credible council polls on the scheduled date.

He urged candidates of the political parties participating in the elections to take their campaigns to the electorates in order to get their votes.

Earlier in his welcome address, the DSIEC Commissioner in-charge of Public Affairs and Communication, Mr James Umukoro said the body “will continue to harp on her zero tolerance for unverified information.

“The Commission is prepared to always engage critical stakeholders on continuous discussion and consultations to forestall rumour mongering and fake news on grave electoral matters.”
