Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the chairmen and other executive members of the People Democratic Party, PDP, at the ward level in Burutu Local Government Area have been urged to put necessary machinery in place to galvanise the people at the grassroots to ensure the party’s victory in all elections in the area.

The Burutu Council Area PDP Chairman, Hon. Ebike Oromoni, who gave the advice while addressing the executive of wards in the area emphasised that the earlier the people at the grassroots are carried along in the scheme of things in the party and programmes of the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the easier it will be for the party to get overwhelming votes of the people in 2023 elections.

Some outcomes of the general elections held in 2015 and 2019 in Nigeria have clearly given the indication that majority of the voters have shifted their attention away from voting for candidates in elections based on inducements by politicians and their political parties.

For this reason, Hon Ebike Oromoni, who superintendent’s over the PDP in Burutu Local Government Area noted that one of the ways for the party to consolidate its hold on the area in future elections is for the party ward executives to be closer to their people to enable them to keep the people abreast of development in the party and the developmental initiatives of the PDP led administration in the state.

He urged them to call ward meetings regularly as the task ahead come 2023 is not going to be easy except they brace up to the challenge.

Hon Oromoni during the meeting also took a swipe at most of the Special Assistants to the state governor from the area who absconded from party activities after they were given an appointment.

He urged the Special Assistants to the governor who have distanced themselves from the people to retrace their steps and join in the collective task to sustain the continued dominance of the PDP in Burutu Council Area.

He also condemned the divisive tendency of some leaders of the party from the area urging them to close ranks and work for the collective good of the party.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa he noted has created the right atmosphere for the party’s victory in future elections through his massive development efforts in the council area and other parts of the state.

This effort of the governor according to Hon Oromoni would be better appreciated by the ward executives if they keep closer touch with their people.

The Youth Leader for PDP Burutu Council Area, Hon Amakama Peremobowei, Treasurer, Mr Ebikefe Youkere, Chairman Ward 5, Hon. Tiko Young and Chairman Ward 11, Comrade Moses Agbobulagha in their various comments at the meeting acknowledged the advice of Hon Victor Oromoni promising to redouble their efforts to consolidate on the party’s victory in future elections in the area.

Though the conduct of the 2023 general elections is still two years ahead, some political observers are however not averse to the early moves by political parties and their aspirants for various elective positions which according to them is in tandem with the saying that “He who does not plan, plans to fail”.
