Immediate past Deputy Governor of Delta State, Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, has distanced himself from the defection of key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that on April 23, 2025, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, led a mass movement of PDP leaders and members into the APC at a ceremony held at the Cenotaph, Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Otuaro, who was conspicuously absent from the event, formally declared on Sunday, September 13, via his official Facebook page, that he had no part in the defection exercise.
He dismissed widespread reports suggesting he had also dumped the PDP for the APC, describing such claims as false, baseless, and misleading.
“I wish to state clearly and unequivocally that such claims are false, baseless, and should be disregarded in their entirety. I remain a bona fide and committed member of the PDP, a party under whose platform I was duly elected and served meritoriously as Deputy Governor of Delta State.
“My faith in the ideals, vision, and guiding principles of the PDP remains strong and unshaken. The PDP has been, and continues to be, the party of choice for me. I therefore urge the general public, political associates, and well-meaning supporters to ignore these rumors, as they are nothing but a calculated attempt to create confusion.”
The former deputy governor, who served alongside Senator Okowa for eight years, reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and stressed the need for members to work together to strengthen the party.
“The task before us as members of the PDP is to strengthen our great party, consolidate on our achievements, and continue to uphold the values that have kept the PDP as a formidable political family,” he added.
