The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has expressed serious concern over the recent attacks on some of its political stalwarts in the state.
The alarm being raised by the party is coming on the heels of the recent violent attack on the APC Delta North Vice Chairman, Prince Fred Mordi and Sunday’s gruesome murder of the policeman and driver to a topmost leader of the party from the Ijaw ethnic extraction in the state, Chief Michael Johnny.
Mordi replaced the former Vice Chairman of the Party in Delta North, Chief George Okafor, who resigned his position and membership of the party.
APC Delta State Publicity Secretary (Caretaker), Sylvester Imonina in a statement on Saturday said, “After the newly appointed Vice Chairman rounded off the celebrations organised for him by Aniocha North APC at Ogwashi-Uku on the 3rd of July, 2021, he was waylaid on his way home by unknown gunmen who trailed him from Ogwashi-Uku to Asaba.
“Luckily for him, the criminals did not cause him any serious bodily harm but his ATM card, large sum of money and other personal belongings were taken from him after been brutalized by them.
“In the same vein, the security Attachee and the Driver to Chief Michael Johnny were murdered in cold blood today, July 4, 2021, in Effurun-Warri. Nothing was taken from the scene of crime which clearly shows a prima facie evidence of assassination!
“According to the undiluted information at the disposal of our Party, the assailants thought that Chief Michael Johnny was in the vehicle, hence the brutal and vicious strike. We thank God for sparing the life of Chief Micheal Johnny but that notwithstanding, the gruesome murder of his close associates has left our Party in mourning.
“Delta APC commiserates with the family members of the deceased persons and those they left behind. The killers and their sponsors will never know peace.
“We accordingly call on the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, the DSS and other security agencies to immediately investigate the dastardly murder and attack on APC members and their Aides in the State. These coordinated attacks should not be swept under the carpet. The attackers must not go unpunished!
“Lives of Deltans matter and the Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa must live up to his responsibility as the Chief Security Officer of the state. The security votes that he collects every month must be put to better use.
“No Deltan deserves to be killed as the right to life is sacrosanct.”
