The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta Central Senatorial District, has emphasized the need for strict adherence to the provisions of the party’s Constitution, especially in ensuring effective and harmonious relationships between the party’s organs.
Delta State vice chairman of PDP and chairman PDP Delta Central, Chief Anthony Akpomiemie, stated this on Wednesday when his leadership met with the PDP Unit Chairmen Forum Ughelli North Chapter, which is made up of Unit chairmen drawn from the 400 Units in the 11 Wards of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Wednesday’s meeting was in response to a letter written by the PDP Unit Chairmen Forum Ughelli North Chapter to the Delta State PDP chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyinka, to pay him a congratulatory and solidarity visit on his emergence as the state party chairman, succeeding his predecessor, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso.
Chief Akpomiemie, while addressing the 400 PDP Units chairmen, described their forum as unique as it is the only local government area in Delta Central where such a forum garners support and ensures the success of the PDP.
He commended the initiative of the founders of the forum, which is geared towards effective galvanization and mobilization of the party members and electorates in electioneering processes.
“This gathering is a unique one. No other local government area has this,” said Akpomiemie.
The Delta Central PDP chairman, however, noted that the existence and activities of the forum should not be done in isolation of the Ward and other organs of the party as enshrined in the party’s Constitution.
Going forward, Chief Akpomiemie told the Unit chairmen that at every given time, they must explore the organs of the PDP, which exist from the Ward, State, Zonal, and National on any issue.
He said, “For anything we want to do please let’s try as much as possible to work within the Constitution. Yes, there could be pressure groups, it is allowed. They are all children of PDP.
“If there is any dispute in any Ward, the Ward should settle that issue. If the Ward cannot settle it, it should go to the LGA level. If the LGA level cannot settle it, it should come to this office (Delta Central). If we cannot settle it, it moves to the state level. I am sure it can be settled there.
“Let us not breach protocol. I am saying this so that in the future, we will be guided and know how to channel our matters. Good we are all working to move PDP forward. We shouldn’t act outside the Constitution.
“We must work together. You must work in synergy with your Ward, LGA, Senatorial down to the State so that we can move in an orderly manner.”
Earlier in his speech, the chairman, PDP Unit Chairmen Forum Ughelli North Chapter, Comrade Nicholas Evwienure said, “As the lowest organ of the party, our primary assignment is to mobilize the grassroots, electorates, to vote for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in all elections conducted by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DRIED) respectively.
“Our mandate is to campaign door to door, neighbour to neighbour, and street to street through canvassing for votes for PDP in all future elections, most especially the upcoming 2027 general election.”
Comrade Evwienure went on to assure the Delta State PDP chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyinka, that under his leadership the forum will work assiduously to ensure the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 general elections.
He appealed for the empowerment of the unit chairmen for maximum commitment to the party.
The meeting climaxed with a vote of confidence on Governor Oborevwori for his unprecedented development of the state and prudent utilization of the state’s funds.
The motion was moved by Comrade Nicholas Evwienure and seconded by Francis Iwhewhe.
