Former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state to support the Presidential and the Vice Presidential candidates of the PDP in the 2023 general elections.
Uduaghan made the call during the PDP Delta South leaders meeting held at his residence in Warri, Delta State to flag off the Ward-to-Ward campaign in the district.
He noted that the meeting is a major “reconciliation meeting” of the party saying “Power belongs to God. At least, I have seen power before. It wasn’t by my power that I saw power.
“I want to plead with us. Make we be like water. Water no get enemy. When you quarrel, fight and God say this is what I want, let’s respect that position.”
Uduaghan said Deltans must thank God for the privilege to have someone in the position of Vice Presidential candidate from the state irrespective of the misgivings that he got the position.
According to him, “We have no option than to support him. Nobody has held that position from our state”.
While noting that nothing has been held from former Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, Senator James Manager and himself since Governor Ifeanyi Okowa emerged as the Vice Presidential candidate, Uduaghan further said, “Nobody has held from us. And it’s not good for our State. It’s not good for our governor and it’s not good for the vice presidential candidate of the PDP.
“We must all line behind him and give him the maximum support. Ibori is our national leader. Virtually all of us are still members of that family.”
He explained that there are bound to be issued in a family but that does not mean members should kill each other.
“Whatever is in your hearts, please give a space. A space that gives support to our presidential and vice presidential candidates.”
Uduaghan also drummed support for the governorship candidate of the party, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Orovwedor Oborevwori saying anyone who is not ready to work for PDP candidates should step aside.
He said the PDP candidate can be held accountable if he is supported and delivered by the people but the candidate of the other party cannot be approached or held accountable.
Uduaghan who also canvassed support for the Delta South Senatorial candidate of the PDP, Hon. Michael Diden a.k.a, Ejele said, “It’s morally, spiritually and devilishly wrong for us to work against him.”
He also appealed to party faithful to shun spreading “unnecessary rumour” that could further divide the party.
He urged PDP members to concentrate on their units and deliver their candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Earlier, the PDP Chairman in Delta South Senatorial District, Hon. Julius Takeme said the party is ready to go into electioneering campaigns which will begin by Monday, November 14, urging party members to prepare themselves in the 87 wards in the senatorial district on how to win the elections massively.
While noting that Delta South Senatorial District is the heartbeat of Delta State, Takeme, said it remained strong and very effective.
He also commended Uduaghan for playing the fatherly role to all of them, especially in the Delta South Senatorial District.
The Director-General of the Campaign Organisation in Delta State, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon also urged party members to work in unity to win the elections.
He also begged Uduaghan to forgive members of the party their trespasses saying, “Your Excellency, please, forgive us our sins. Many of us have sinned against you”.
