The leadership and members of PDP Delta Mandate have congratulated Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, on his emergence as the governorship candidate of the party for the 2023 general elections.
The group in a statement on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, by its National President, Hon. Isaac Anwuzia, after the gubernatorial primary said, “PDP Delta Mandate Heartily Congratulates the Peoples Democratic Party Gubernatorial Candidate on his overwhelming victory at just concluded State Party Congress!
“We as a Group are very happy that we adopted and supported the Sheriffied Train to victory! To God Almighty be the glory!”
According to the group, Oborevwori can be trusted to sustain the development initiatives of the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa.
It noted that the wide margin of votes polled by Oborevwori is a clear attestation of his overwhelming acceptance by the PDP family in Delta State, which according to the group will definitely snowball into a landslide victory for the party in the 2023 polls.
Oborevwori, who is the current Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly on Wednesday, clinched the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP gubernatorial ticket in the state, beating thirteen others in the contest.
The Speaker scored 597 votes to emerge the winner of the election held under peaceful atmosphere at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
In the contest were the State Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro, Senator James Manager, Chief David Edevbie, Abel Esievo, Ejaife Odebala, Peter Mrakpor, Brandius Angozie, Fred Majemite, Lucky Idike, Chris Oyoware, Bright Edejegho, Kenneth Gbagi and Ikie Aghwarianovwe.
Chief David Edevwie came distant second with 113 votes, while Senator James Manager got 83 votes to come out third position.
Eight hundred and twenty four delegates who were earlier accredited at the Event Center, Asaba, voted in the election.
The returning officer for the election, Mr Ndubuisi Nwobu, announced the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner of the election having scored the highest votes.
The announcement heralded lots of jubilations as the winner was carried shoulder high.
The PDP Gubernatorial primary election was held amidst tight security devoid of violence, with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in attendance, while former Governors James Ibori and Emmanuel Uduaghan were absent.
The exercise which began with the accreditation of the 825 delegates at the Dome Centre, Asaba at about 11am, was peaceful.
Thirteen of the 14 cleared aspirants were present, while Chief Gbagi was said to had pulled out of the contest on Monday.
The voting exercise commenced at 3:24pm with Aniocha North delegates voting first in alphabetical order.
The election was witnessed by security agents and officials of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC.
Voting ended at 5:30 with Warri South West delegates at the election.
