The Ijaws of Delta State under the aegis of Ijaw Patriotic Group have adopted Prince Barnabas Akporehe as their preferred candidate for the Delta South Senatorial seat in the 2023 general elections.
The endorsement of the senatorial bid of Akporehe who hails from Oyede community in Isoko North Local Government Area took place at a gathering of the group on Thursday in Bomadi headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area.
Drawn from Burutu, Bomadi, Patani, Warri South-West and Warri North Local Government Areas, the Ijaws of Delta State especially the youths converged at the Bomadi Town Hall to receive a delegation of Prince Barnabas Akporehe for Senate 2023 led by the Isoko Nation Co-ordinator, Fidelis Utomudo.
The President of the Ijaw Patriotic Group, Pince Abraham Kokoimgbi, Richard Akassa, Prince Kelvin Ayemi and others who spoke at the gathering were unanimous in their resolve to allow a competent, grassroots oriented and a philanthropist in the person of prince Barnabas Akporehe to be the voice of Delta South in the Red Chamber in 2023.
They were unequivocal in their resolve that it is the turn of Isoko Nation to represent the district in the Senate in the next political dispensation noting that the Isoko nation has tremendously supported the Ijaws to produce the Senator for the district.
According to them, it is only fair for the Ijaws of Delta State to reciprocate the support of the Isoko people by throwing their weight behind the Senatorial aspiration of Prince Barnabas Akporehe, who has continued to demonstrate commitment and passion to alleviating poverty, especially in the area of youth empowerment.
Responding, Isoko Nation Co-ordinator for Prince Barnabas Akporehe for Senate 2023, Fidelis Utomudo, thanked the Ijaws for believing and trusting in the capacity of Prince Barnabas to change the narrative in the representation of Delta South in the Senate and assured them that their support would not be taken for granted.
The last time Delta South Senatorial District had an Isoko person in Senate was when Senator Stella Omu represented the district from 1999 to 2003 under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
